You know what the signs are. In the morning when you get dressed you need to suck in your gut a little just to get your pants snapped. Every pair of your pants is folded over at the top because your stomach hangs over. When you sit down to tie your shoes you get winded. Your kids want you to show them your “pregnant look” by sticking out your belly. What they fail to realize is that all you have to do to them them this is just to relax and not hold in your gut. Look, you can ignore the problem all you want but face it you have excess belly fat. If you ignore the problem, it will only get bigger. Let’s take a look at some tips for getting rid of belly fat.

I am going to be honest with you from the start: it is not easy to get rid of belly fat. In fact, it is one of the last places the fat will leave. You will begin to think out throughout the rest of your body first. The stomach area is sort of like the Alamo or Little Big Horn. It is where fat is trying to make its final stand. But never fear; there are some things we can do to get rid of stomach fat, but they require work on your part.

Tip for Burning Fat #1

Stay away for the junk food. The first step to getting rid of belly fat is to alter the behavior that created the problem in the first place. You didn’t gain excess stomach fat overnight or by accident. You worked hard at it. Years of poor eating habits have brought you to this point. You need to change these habits. An essential part of this is to stop eating junk food. Let me define junk for for you: cookies, chips, cake, brownies, soda, sugary drinks, candy, Ho Hos, Twinkies, cupcakes, Little Debbies, etc. I think you get the picture. These food are empty calories that provide no nutritional value whatsoever.

Tip for Burning Fat #2

Eat vegetables and fruit. If you need a snack mid morning or mid afternoon then eat a piece of fruit. Make sure that you have vegetables with every lunch and dinner you eat. If you are not currently doing so you are robbing your body of many of the nutrients that it needs.

Eat smaller portions. You don’t need seconds after every meal. If you think I am wrong then go stand sideways in front of a mirror and relax your gut. Do you see that protrusion around the area of your abdomen? That is your body’s way of telling you that you eat too much. Listen to your body. If you want to get rid of abdominal fat then you have to stop eating so much.

Eat more often. Okay, about now your are probably beginning to ask yourself if this guy is crazy. But pay attention to what I said. I said to eat more often. I did not say to eat more food. You need to begin to raise your metabolism rate so that your body will burn calories at a faster clip. One way to do that is by eating 5 or 6 small meals throughout the day. This will help raise your metabolic rate. Let’s talk abot a couple of other ways to do this as well.

Get of your butt and exercise. I have often wondered how many people sit arond watching the Biggest Loser while stuffing their face with a bag of potato chips. There is often a disconnect in our thinking. You need to lose weight and it won’t happen by sitting on a couch or in a recliner. Get out, go for a walk or a job. Perform bodyweight exercises. Instead of sitting in your office during lunch get out and take a walk. Increase your activity level. Get away from the television. You should perform some form of cardio exercise for at least 20 minutes each day.

Build muscle. Please, I don’t want to hear women say that they don’t want to be muscle bound. You can’t and you won’t. If it was that easy to build muscle I would look like Arnold Schwartzeneggar back in the day. I am not asking you to take steroids; I am asking you to lift some weight and build some muscle in the process. Why is this important? Because it raises your metabolic rate. The more muscle you have the more calories you will burn during the day. A calorie is nothing more than a unit of energy. It takes more energy to maintain muscle than it does to maintain fat. So the more muscle you add the quicker you turn yourself into a fat burning machine.

What is the one product that will help us lose weight faster than any other?  I know when people ask that question they are looking for the answer to be some weight loss supplement or fat burner or diet pill.  We have this fascination with the magic pill.  Although we have taken 5 or 10 years to put on the extra and unwanted fat that we are carrying we expect some magic pill to make it all go away in a couple of weeks.  If this is what you believe, you are in for a rude awakening.  The best weight loss product is not what you think.

In fact, some of your may leave this article right now since you have surmised that I am not going to tell you about the “magic pill.”  Let me burst your bubble.  There is no such pill or product. Much of the products on the market that promise great weight loss are deceptive, damaging or just outright lies.  Diet pills have been known to dehydrate you and give you the impression that you lost weight fast.  What you did was lose water, not fat.  There is a big difference.

Appetite suppressants want to keep you from eating.  I challenge you to find one weight loss expert who will tell you to not eat as a way of losing weight.  You may want to cut back on how much you consume but if you begin to cut meals out altogether you will ultimately get fatter.  You will slow your metabolism down and the cut in calories won’t benefit you.

Fat burners and other weight loss supplements may do damage to your body.  If you don’t believe it then maybe you should consider the examples of Phen Phen, Hydroxycut or Ephedra.  The best weight loss product is not a pill.

What you need is something that will accomplish two things at once.  You need a product that can get your heart rate elevated to enable you to burn calories effectively and a product that will help you build muscle.  What does muscle have to do with weight loss, you ask?  The more muscle you have the more calories you burn.  Muscle requires more energy (calories) to maintain it than fat does.  You need to build muscle.  It raises your metabolism.

If you are like me you don’t like to put too many foreign substances into your body.  I am not a fan a prescription medication and I have never taken a weight loss supplement or fat burner in my life.  You just never know if what is in them will have an adverse effect on you.  However, despite our best efforts sometimes we will still pack on a few unwanted pounds leaving us to ponder the question of how to lose weight naturally.

There are no secrets to weight loss.  Despite what many radio or television commercials tell you there is not a need to fill your body with supplements.  You can lose weight naturally if you will construct a diet and exercise program around the following key components.

Eat less but eat more often.  OK, that probably sounds like a paradox, however, let’s break down the statement.  You need to eat less during the day then you normally do.  In other words, take in fewer calories.  If you drink a lot of soft drinks then cut htem out.  Avoid candy and other junk food.  If it is your habit to eat a bag of chips while watching television you will need to put an end to that as well.  Instead of having seconds at the dinner table leave after one plate.  Instead of heaping portions on your plate take moderate portions instead.  Eat less.  But eat more frequently.

Your current practice may be to eat three times a day.  Increase that to five meals per day but make them smaller.  I realize that most cannot bring two extra meals with them to work but you can at least bring two pieces of fruit.  Eat one mid morning and eat the other mid afternoon.  This will help keep your metabolism at a higher level.  Never skip a meal.  This will work against you.

Another tip on how to lose weight naturally is to exercise at least 20 -25 minutes per day.  Calories are consumed when you workout.  Perform a mix of cardio from jogging to jumping rope to jump squats.  Perform this cardio in an interval fashion.  In other words, jog for 90 seconds then sprint for 30 seconds then jog for 90 seconds then sprint for 30 seconds.  Rinse and repeat.  I think you get the picture.

If one is truly concerned with how to lose weight naturally then they must incorporate a weight lifting routine into their exercise routine.  If you do nothing but cardio you will begin to eat your muscle.  You want to build muscle and this is accomplished through strength training.  The more muscle you have on your body the more calories you will burn.  It takes more calories to maintain one pound of muscle than it does to maintain one pound of fat.
