Many people start out with the newest fad diet available, and they pursue it successfully for a week or two. They even see instant weight loss and think that their newest diet is the answer to their prayers.

When people implement a new diet program (whichever program it is), they rapidly lose weight in the first few days before coming to a screeching halt. Sadly enough, this ‘instant weight loss’ is more often than not merely ‘temporary’ weight loss.

But then they hit the “weight loss plateau”; where your body no longer responds to what you were doing before that successfully dropped those extra pounds.

In such situations, the only remedy is a complete overhaul of your lifestyle habits. If you want to go beyond this point, you need to change your diet and exercise regimen.

You have probably done the same sets of exercises as well as ate the same types of foods over and over again during those first few weeks when you were losing weight.

As a result your body got accustomed to your diet and exercise routine. When that happened, your weight loss methods failed to bring any sustainable results!

Here are two quick tricks you need to implement to get out of the weight loss plateau.

1. Eliminate calorie counting. Calorie counting is not the way to go. When you count your calories, you basically limit your intake of calories to an abnormally low level.

When you eat low calorie foods, there is no incentive for your body to increase your metabolic rate since it has to burn fewer calories on a daily basis.

The result is that your metabolic rate always remains at a very low level. When your metabolic rate is low, you aren’t able to burn fat.

In order to burn fat and lose weight successfully, you need to forget about calorie counting and eat enough so that your body is forced to keep your metabolic rate burning at a high level. Your body needs fuel to burn fat, and it can get that fuel only from food.

Another idea to consider is to eat fix or six micro meals every day instead of two or three big ones. The reason? Because every time your body takes in food, it forces your metabolism to speed up to aid digestion.

By eating more than three times a day, your body is continually processing the food you have taken in, and your metabolism burns at a higher level.

2. Continue to exercise. If you have been avoiding exercise altogether, or have been doing only light exercise, then you will not lose the weight you desire.

Weight loss is only possible if you get some exercise several times a week. I’m not telling you to go out and run a marathon every other day; merely walking at a brisk rate for 20 to 25 minutes every two or three days will force your metabolism to speed up and begin burning body fat.

Remember the simple weight loss equation. You have to burn more calories everyday than you take in from food.

If you eat foods that are “fat burning compatible”, your body will burn the calories from those fat burning compatible foods through exercise and an increased metabolic rate.

And once those fat burning compatible calories are burned, your body looks for the next source of energy available; and it finds it in the body fat that you have been storing.

Remember, body fat can be burned; because that is what it is there for.

So make sure that that you don’t slow your metabolism with a low calorie diet; and try and get in some moderate exercise two or three times every week.

As mentioned earlier, we do not want the defense mechanism of the body to go into an “ON” mode and get protective of extra fat deposits, expecting “crash-burn” stress etc.

A natural exercise like walking will face less resistance from the body. Walking is a threat free process and may therefore work faster as compared to any other exercises. Walking will keep the bodys metabolism working, help you to burn fat fast and also keep your weight in check.

Walking will:

a) Kick starts the metabolism and process of burning the fat. The body will then on its own take charge of the functions and there will not be a high demand on the efforts from the walking exercise.

b) Prevents the body from getting into the defensive mode and avoid accumulation of excessive fat derived from fear of stressful exercise.

Workouts – the crash types, more often than not have a negative effect on our aim to burn fat fast. The right choice would be the most natural form of exercise – walking. It is something that you do every day. No stress, no strain, no resistance. A brisk walk can easily burn up 300 calories per hour.

To burn fat fast our body must remain in a fat-burning mode during the whole exercise. Walking is a gradual and constant activity and put you in an effective fat-burning mode.

Walking is said to be one of the best types of exercise because it is low impact. Meaning you get the benefits to your body with a very low risk of injury. It also aligns with our own instincts of how to burn body fat fast which are much more practical than the theories we read of.

A very thin, almost transparent line separates the two weight loss techniques – quick weight loss (speedy burn) and spot weight reduction (crash-burn).

When people want to lose excess body fat they are usually looking for a fast fat loss program. The reason for this is that most of us are impatient. We live busy hectic lives and we want results now. We want to notice the change right away and fit back into clothes we haven’t been able to fit into for years. And we want it to be easy – we don’t want to work hard to achieve those results.

Most people eat what they want all year round, sleep in to the last possible minute each morning, prefer television over exercising and dream about how next week (or month/year) they are going to lose those extra pounds hanging around the midsection and start a healthy lifestyle.

Suddenly one day they realize that there is just two weeks left before they have to go to the Xmas party or that summer is coming up and they want to look good on the beach.

The problem is when people attempt to lose body fat by a restrictive diet alone, a futile cycle can develop. When weight is lost quickly the body shifts into starvation mode (fat storing mode), that is, it tries to conserve as much energy as it can as it thinks there is a famine.

The human body is a well coordinated working mechanism and it has no idea that you have decided to try and reveal your abdominal six pack and are just doing some new fad diet. It thinks you are starving and it is only concerned about survival. To ensure this happens it slows the metabolism (the rate the body burns fuel) down to conserve energy.

When you go off the diet ? and you will – you will gain all of the lost weight back and some extra pounds in addition to that. To make it simple fast weight loss is always followed by fast weight gain and there are no exceptions to this.

The only way to guarantee sustained, permanent and long term weight loss (fat loss) is to boost your metabolism. The most effective way to do this is to have a greater proportion of functional muscle tissue on your body. And the only way to do this is with strength training exercise.

There is no other type of exercise that can compare with strength training and its effect of the metabolic rate. After each exercise session your body will undergo a significant increase or spike in metabolism which will allow you to burn fat faster than you were able to before. This will even happen while you are sleeping or on the couch watching television.

As you continue to build and maintain your strength your body becomes more efficient at burning body fat. The lean muscle tissue on your body is also what makes you look good. Once you dump off the excess body fat, the lean muscle underneath your skin will be more visible making you look firm, well toned, lean and healthy.

Long term success managing your weight starts with the right approach. If you are overweight, you need to be aware that the real problem is that you have too much body fat for how much lean muscle tissue you possess. A body composition solution is needed which is more than just a weight loss diet. Your goal should be to lose body fat without losing muscle tissue or sacrificing your health in the process.

If you don’t incorporate strength training exercise into your weight loss program then look forward to very disappointing results. The key is to burn off the body fat not starve it off. Quality natural whole foods and more energy output are the goal you will need to shoot for. Get your metabolism burning hot and keep it cranking and this cannot be achieved by missing meals and missing workouts.

Exercising without maintaining a balanced diet is just as harmful as dieting while remaining inactive. Decreasing calories through reduced food intake is not nearly as effective as increasing calories burned through proper exercise. Lots of muscle activity through strength training exercise and lots of good food, not calorie deficiency has the far greater power to get you lean and healthy for life.
